Why should we equip our business with a defibrillator?

A defibrillator saves lives. When a person suffers from cardiac-respiratory arrest, the rhythm of the heart becomes abnormal. Every single minute where the heart misses a beat reduces the chances of survival by 10%. After 10 minutes without defibrillation, the victim has little chance of survival. The only solution is to perform defibrillation at an early stage.

Who can suffer cardiac-respiratory arrest?

Everybody, at anytime, anywhere. Children can suffer from cardiac arrest, athletes can be victim to cardiac arrest, the elderly can have cardiac arrest. Although the risks increase with age and for people with heart problems, a majority of the victims are people who do not have any known risk factors.

What treatment is recommended when cardiac-respiratory arrest occurs?

Defibrillation is the only therapy that re-establishes a normal cardiac rhythm.

Can a non-medical person make a mistake when using a defibrillator?

No. Since the Decree of 4 May 2007, any non-medical person is permitted to use a defibrillator.

The defibrillator’s vocal instructions guide the user step by step. Moreover, the equipment has been specifically designed in such a way that the user does not deliver the electro-shock; it is the machine itself which decides whether or not to administer a shock.

How much time do I have to save a person who has suffered cardiac arrest?

Only a few minutes. If you defibrillate within 4 minutes after the cardiac arrest, the victim has 70% chances of survival.

After 10 minutes, chances of survival are extremely low.
